  2. to get it out i ran it through a very quick master i do not like to put a perfect mix master on a track when is being shopped out especially if i forget to add tag lines like i did on this one lol

    1. Cool. I don't worry about master until the final stage. I usually post lower volume unmastered rough mixes for the vocals to use. Just sounds like it's slammed. I really like this.

    1. Ray just uploaded a new mix Brent. It's in the player at the top, if you are interested. I have not had time to listen yet but I am guessing it's not slammed on the levels like the other one was.

  5. Ray - This sounds wonderful. Love the groove and the swing. I am a vocalist and lyricist. I used to be quite active on iCompositions from 2005 - 2011. Am thinking about getting started up doing collaborations again. Before I work out lyrics and record vocals for your track, I will upload an older demo of mine that is at least somewhat in this genre. You can hear an example of my voice and my lyrics, then let me know if you want me to take a try on your song.

I did the instrumentals on this demo myself, but my ideal situation is fitting lyrics and melody to someone else's music with stronger playing skills than I have. I did this song with loops cut up into small pieces to build the structure I wanted. NO HARD FEELINGS if I am not the sound you are looking for, but thanks in advance for listening.

  8. That song you linked is gorgeous and heartbreaking. I get it. Love that style.

However, yesterday evening (before your message back) I found some old lyrics of mine that seemed like they fit the song and started roughing out the melody and vocal. Still quite bluesy, but not the super sparse classic blues pacing. Will be curious to hear what you think of my take.

The bigger challenge for me is this is the first song I have tried to record in several years, and my voice is SO out of shape. Pitchy and cracky around all the edges. I probably need a week or two of rehearsing just to see if I can still sing. I will post my current version later today. I am not focusing on the mix at all, just something to give you a VERY ROUGH idea of where I am headed.

  9. WISH ME THERE (First Draft Demo)
Music by Raydachef / Lyrics and Melody by John Dee Fair

If I could wake up, in your arms
    Sunday morning, no alarms
You'd spend the whole day, here with me
Just like we used to be

If I could make, one wish come true
I'd be laying right next to you
But if you had one wish to spare
Would you ever wish me there
    Wish me there

If I could see you, in the sun
    Afternoon has just begun
You promise you are gonna stay
Just like you used to say

If I could make, one wish come true
I'd be laying right next to you
But if you had one wish to spare
Would you ever wish me there
    Wish me there

    [BREAK]

If I could lay down by your side
Take your dreams out for a ride
Hold you close all through the night
Just like when we were right

If I could make, one wish come true
I'd be laying right next to you
But if you had one wish to spare
Would you ever wish me there
Would you ever wish me there

  10. Ray - Just uploaded the second draft: Wish Me There (Second Draft Demo)

PLEASE SKIP FIRST DRAFT - or at least listen to 2nd Draft first, as your first impression.

Will probably continue this weekend trying to get my voice back after years without recording

  11. Ray sent me a message to my admin console and told me he is having his computer serviced and is out of commission for a few days.

  12. Ray - Heard your computer might be down so you can't respond right away. Definitely for the best and will save you some time. I worked yet again on the song yesterday, and realized my voice is just shot after too many years without singing. Super pitchy, cracking, no breath control. Sorry for the distraction from me, but your arrangement is beautiful, so I am sure you will find the right vocalist. Best wishes to you in the New Year.

    1. John, I wouldn't take Ray's lack of response personally. I think he just gets busy. I have been waiting for response from Ray (and you for that matter) for quite some time. It's just how it goes with his time. So don't let that be the reason you're giving up.

  13. KEEPER — I did NOT take it that way at all. He already let me know he was very busy right now, and I knew it was a holiday weekend. I was actually relieved I had time to post a second slightly better demo before he heard the first. I just got frustrated my voice has gotten so brittle after almost 10 years of no recording. Feels like it would take many weeks of rehearsing just to see if I can get anywhere near my old singing skills, which were already modest. It was VERY KIND of you to check in. Must be time for me to hang up the mic. Your response makes it feel like a nice musical community. Sorry if I wasted anyone’s time. Even the second demo is so rough now that I listen the next day. So it goes... Take care.

    1. I used to be a vocalist until I lost it to vocal cord cancer. I would give anything to be in your position, so I could sing at all. As a matter of fact my left vocal cord is permenantly paralyzed so it's hard for me to even follow a simple melody, and yet I am considering trying to revamp my vocal skills in spite of this and re invent myself. I like what I've heard, and you should be thankful you can still sing at all. I'd love to have your voice to work with. I've been trying to get your attention to bring you into the group. You should keep working at it, just because you are not ready to have them shoveling dirt onto you. LOL Do it just because you love it. Drop me an email and I will bring you in, just because you enjoy this type of thing. fjamstudios@gmail.com I created this collab group and have been hosting it since 1998. You are welcome, and only you have that kind of expectations. Just enjoy. I am sure Ray will be back with us soon enough. I expect he only has phone for the moment.

  14. Hey guys yes apple still has my computer and they are dicking me around but hey if your vocal is a lil off or pitchy thats ok i do have melodyne and antares auto-tune if it really needs it i can correct some of those imperfections remember blues tracks always has vocal imperfections thats ine of the things i love about blues

    1. Ray, just so ya know. John is now a member of the forum that you've been invited to. Maybe when you get your apple back you can accept that invite. Also, John was telling me he is not sure if you liked his track or not. When someone auditions for you, don't leave them hanging as to whether or not they've been accepted here. Gotta come right out and say. If he is you and him can continue working, and I will add him to the roster for melody, and lyrics.

  15. He is really down on his voice, but what I've heard shows promise. So if he's in please let him know. And be direct with your auditions so they know where they stand as to being added to the roster.

  16. You cas say something like "accepted with work" and we'll know you think he can do it but needs to work on it. He was ready to hang his mic up. I think that's a big mistake if he does that. Put it out there man.

  17. Hey Keeper - You are very kind to look out for me, but like I said, Ray warned me he was very busy right now, and besides it was a holiday weekend. The reason I got discouraged was not any lack of response from Ray, it was because I was having so much trouble singing for the first time in years. Could not seem to get a good take and my voice was struggling. But of course, you are right that it is always nice to get feedback. Ray did respond today and very kindly despite the very rough demo vocal.

Ray: Here is a better example of how I used to sing. Still might not be your cup of tea, but I felt good about this older work. Can't seem to find this vocal strength, pitch or phrasing right now. https://sites.google.com/view/musicofjohndeefair/home

    1. Ok but Ray is a little new to this collabing thing too. When someone auditions they will be looking for some sort of ya or ney from the owner of the project. So it's a little about getting Ray into his role too. I am watching as admin and I will update the credits based on Ray's comments too. Text can be hard to interpret. Just saying we gotta be a little more straight forward. If he's on a phone he can still say. I THINK he has said now, but that's the thing. We aren't really sure. If a producer knows his stuff he can fix a lot. I know you have ultra high expectations of yourself.

    1. No it's not private. Anyone who is subscribed is getting email from this. I think Brent is getting email. Remember way back when he said he liked it and had something to try? The private message of the forum I invited you to is private and allows links to be sent. I worked with John all afternoon setting up his studio site. He has a file server on his site now. It works just like this. You didn't respond to the invite Ray. If you saw it you should accept and join. The PM of that forum is private and is nice. It's a lot like FB only without the limits. We use email a lot so you always have that route. It's tried and true.

  22. Hey Guys! I see a bunch of messages and comments to me today. I am home dealing with a broken water heater and trying to prevent all the boxes in my basement from being flooded (still unpacking). The repair companies so far are backed for at least a couple weeks due to employees out with Covid, so having some challenges. Will catch up on the comments and the comparison player this evening (Thanks for that!) Greatly appreciate the interest.

    ReplyDelete
  23. OK. Caught up on all the comments above. Thanks for being patient while I dealt with my water issues at home today. All looks good above, but I interpret it as Ray is still waiting for his computer (?) and might not have listened to either demo, or "Deliver Me" on my personal page (a MUCH better demo of my singing some years back). I completely understand and am not in a rush, especially in my current home situation.

Ray - If you just get time to listen to just one thing, listen to Second Draft Demo, which was at least better than the first draft. I think the first draft is in the player on this page, but I will double check with Keeper. I will also send you an email to your address above. Agree working all these details out "in public" feels very open, but maybe that is the culture on the site, to share the whole process. I had a great private conversation with Keeper in the Forum system yesterday, and that worked very well.

Good luck with your computer. I hate not having mine when that has happened.
